SMALL CASE STUDY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
One Solution for Two Problems
Like many school districts, New York Mills Central School District, New York Mills, NY, was receiving complaints from students and staff about how much their allergies bothered them—inside their school buildings. They also complained about the strong smells produced by the chemicals used to clean the schools.
The problems forced Don Keller, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the district, to look for solutions. He knew finding the cause of the allergies might prove difficult, so his first step was to find cleaning chemicals that were odor-free, where possible.
“We decided it was a good time to consider more environmentally preferable cleaning products as well,” says Keller.
After studying different brands,Kellerpurchased cleaning chemicals manufactured by Enviro-Solutions, which has been making
only Green cleaning products for more than 10 years.
“The products are essentially odor-free, so we eliminated [the odor] problem,” says Keller. “We also found them to be as effective as the products we used before at about the same cost.”
Enviro-Solutions offers cleaning chemicals certified-Green by either Green Seal® or Environmental Choice™. This means they have been tested to be not only Green but also as effective as traditional cleaning products used to do the same or similar tasks and at a comparable cost to the consumer.
“But it appears we were able to solve both [the allergy and odor] problems just by changing the cleaning chemicals,” according to Keller. “After a few months of using the Enviro-Solutions products, the chemical odors dissipated and so did the allergies. We’re a healthier school district now.”
