April 4, 2005 - Examples of Hazardous Cleaning Chemicals Used in Schools
FYI, please see the attached document – Examples of Hazardous Cleaning. It provides some illustrations of hazardous cleaning chemicals used in a very large, major, school board. You will note that the chemicals listed in the chart are the general/typical ones used regularly. The Floor Finishes they used listed no ingredients in the MSDS’s and that is why we did not provide an analysis for those products. However as you know, floor finishes are typically hazardous.
For more info regarding the hazards of Floor Care Products, review the following link to CMM Online and their article from a short while ago. The article provides general background info on the health hazards of traditional floor care products, what to look for in safer products, and provides a link to Green Seal's "Choose Green Report" dealing with Floor Care, a comprehensive 12 page report complete with a details on what to look for in safer strippers and finishes, as well as product recommendations. FYI...in the March issue of Cleaning Maintenance Management, this information was again featured in an article.
